《维纳斯的诞生》约作于1485年，是托斯卡纳现存最早的大幅布面绘画，长期被归到洛伦佐·迪·皮耶尔弗朗切斯科·德·美第奇名下，今藏佛罗伦萨乌菲兹美术馆。画面是一段逆风推进的路程：左侧一对相拥的风神悬空吹气，中央的女神赤身立在扇贝上，右侧岸边的时序女神张开一件缀花斗篷等她登岸。全画几乎没有可信的投影，体积感被压到最低，人物靠轮廓线与极薄的色层立住。画布由两幅亚麻横向缝合，上色前只刷一层掺石膏的动物胶底浆，不施白底，颜色因此透亮；波提切利用“瘦”蛋彩反复薄罩，肉色薄到能看见布纹。金以两种方式出现：笔涂的金线勾发丝与贝棱，贴上去的金箔点出翅羽与橙叶上的高光，许多贴金是在画作连同画框安放就位之后才补的。1815年它从皮蒂宫库房被取回，同年挂进乌菲兹。

Painted around 1485, The Birth of Venus is the earliest large canvas surviving from Tuscany. It was long attributed to Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de' Medici's commission and hangs today in the Uffizi. The scene is a landfall against the wind: two entwined wind gods blow from the left, the goddess stands naked on a scallop shell, and a Horae waits on shore with a flowered mantle. Cast shadows are almost entirely absent; the figures hold up on contour and the thinnest possible layers of paint.
