- 一块浅米色的平地，没有桌面、没有影子、没有任何环境。上半部画着一只烟斗：斗钵在左，圆鼓鼓的棕褐色，口朝上，里面是一团深色空腔；斗柄从钵底向右下方弯出去，再抬起来，末端是黑色的烟嘴，钵与柄之间箍着一圈浅色。它被画得干净、立体，像一张商品图。下方留出一段空白，然后是一行手写的法文：Ceci n'est pas une pipe，句号收尾。除此之外，画面上再没有别的东西。连烟斗的影子都被省略掉，这一点和它那句否定是配套的：你没法用一个影子去指出一个不在那里的东西。整幅画作于一九二八至二九年间画家三十岁时。他早年做过广告与图案，画的正是这种干净、直接、可读的语言：让画面像一份目录，再让那句否定成为画…
