- 两个人，一间暗下来的屋子，其余全是红色。老沙皇跪坐在地上，把儿子整个搂在怀里；青年的身体正往下滑，粉橘色的长袍被血洇开一大片。父亲一只手托住他的后背，另一只手死死按住太阳穴上的伤口，血还是从指缝里流下来，一直流到地毯上，积成一小滩。这间屋子红了：地毯是暗红，墙上是红黑相间的菱形花纹，儿子袍子上的红最亮，血的红更深。左侧一把木凳翻倒了，红条纹坐垫还挂在上面；右前景横着一根镶金的权杖，那是刚被丢下的凶器。左上角一扇窄窗透进一线冷白的光，正好落在这张脸上：眼睛瞪得极大，里面什么都没有。列宾画的是一五八一年的一场宫廷血案，但他把时间放在了事发之后：事情已经发生，剩下的只是坐在那里，看着它一点一点变凉…
