《煎饼磨坊的舞会》作于 1876 年，次年参加第三次印象派展览，今藏巴黎奥赛博物馆。煎饼磨坊是蒙马特一座老风车改的露天舞场，卖廉价煎饼与酒；十九世纪后半叶，巴黎的工人阶层在星期日下午盛装来此跳舞、喝酒，一直跳到天黑。雷诺瓦把视点放在人群中间：前景几个人围坐在长凳上，一个男人从身后把手搭在穿条纹裙的姑娘肩上；右边绿桌上摆着玻璃瓶与杯子；中景一对对男女贴身旋转；再往后人越挤越多，一直堆到画尽头，树间挂着一排白纸灯笼。他几乎不用灰画影子，而是把补色直接并排放上画面，让观者的眼睛自己去调：地面因此是蓝紫的，白裙是粉、蓝、黄的碎片，光斑把人与树缝在一起。这幅画 1879 至 1894 年间由卡耶博特持有，他去世时用它抵了遗产税，交到国家手里。

Painted in 1876 and shown at the third Impressionist exhibition, Bal du moulin de la Galette catches a Sunday afternoon at a Montmartre dance hall converted from an old windmill. Renoir puts us inside the crowd: figures seated on benches in the foreground, a man's hand on a girl's shoulder, glasses on a green table, couples turning behind them, and a row of paper lanterns overhead. Shadows are painted blue-violet rather than grey, and complementary colours are set side by side so that the eye does the mixing. Caillebotte owned the picture from 1879 and it entered the national collection in lieu of inheritance tax.
