- 《被拖去解体的无畏号战舰》1838 年作、1839 年在皇家艺术学院展出，布面油画 90.7×121.6 厘米，现藏伦敦国家美术馆。画的是退役的 98 门炮战列舰勇莽号被拖往罗瑟希德拆解：她三根桅杆光秃地立着，船身发白，吃水很深；前面一艘小黑拖船用细烟囱朝斜后方喷出一道长烟，横过老船的船头，桅顶挂一面白旗——那意味着她已被卖给私人拆船商。右半边全给了落日：一个淡黄的圆盘压在岸线上，云被烧成金、橙、绯红与紫，倒影平铺在水上。透纳改了三处史实：实际是两艘拖船在拉，她的桅杆与炮在出售前已拆掉，而泰晤士河口在东，画里的落日却在船尾方向。他连名字也改了，把海军的绰号「莽撞的勇莽号」写成「战斗中的勇莽号…
